Travel Day/Pompeii

Writer: Meg Meg

We woke up early today to grab a train to Naples. Embarkment is just a couple days away!!! I took another covid test yesterday (we need a pcp negative 72 hours before we arrive to the ship terminal). The test was negative, so just one more negative test left before getting on the ship!!

The train station was definitely a work out. We looked so stupid carrying all our bags. When we finally got on the train we were all sweating. We put our bags together on a couple seats and sat next to them so we could watch them. We didn’t take the fast train because check out was at 10am and the check in for the place in Pompeii was not until 3pm. The ride wasn’t bad as it was only 3 hours and 15 minutes and we had time to kill anyway. I took a nap for the first two hours that felt very good. There was no bathroom or bar cart on the train so that was a slight issue because non of us really ate this morning.

Once we arrived in Naples it was a slight shit show hauling all the luggage through the train station. Our big group then parted ways and Hannah and I headed towards to taxi area for our next few days in Pompeii.

The taxi to Pompeii was kinda a disaster. We asked the guy if it was $50 euros and he responded with yes. Then tells us it is 100 once we are inside the car. So we ask him to pull over, we will get a different taxi. He doesn’t, keeps driving, he didn’t really understand English so the girl that was with me was trying to do Google translate and that failed. We finally get to the designated spot after he was swearing at us in Italian. We get out and thankfully the abnb guy is outside waiting for us, so we ask him to translate which results in the taxi man and abnb man yelling at each other. We ended up overpaying by like 40 euros. Oh and when the taxi driver left he ran over Hannah’s bag with his car. It was an experience ride for sure.

The abnb is sooo cute though. It has a rooftop deck and all 10 of us have beds. Shortly after we arrived Hannah and I went out to find tape or something to fix her bag. We failed at the tape part but we found a cute coffee shop. We got some coffee and learned some Italian from the owner. We then walked down the street some more (like physically on the street - there are no sidewalks in Pompeii). We found another little bar area and our abnb host was drinking there so we stopped by and bought some snacks and a drink. Someone in the bar thought I was from Denmark so that's a win (means not acting like a stupid American). When we had a drink with the host, he told us that everything is closed from 2pm to 4pm for lunch so we turned back home to relax for a bit.

The new abnb in Pompeii is all new girls except one that I've traveled with. Most of them got off the plane today so they are tired. But I am excited that I got to meet more SAS girls!! We all then relaxed until dinner.

We went to this little pizza shop recommended by abnb owner. The shop owner has been making and running the place since 1986. He and his friend that played football together started the business. He was literally the cutest man ever. He was so happy to show us his pizza place. I didn’t get any pizza but I got his home made bread, so good. Best bread I think I’ve ever had.

We took the pizza home and ate out on rooftop plaza at our abnb. The rooftop is so cute. We all ate and got to know each other. Some of the girls I really enjoyed talking too! After dinner on the rooftop I called it an early night.

Sure looks like fun, but how could it have been the best bread you ever tasted? That was a bit of a wild taxi story. What a wonderful time you are having. Love ya
