The hotel had organized a day tour to Marrakech for us. The day started early at about 7 am in order to have enough time in the city. Marrakech was a three-hour drive from Casablanca. We had a personal guide and driver for the entire day. It was perfect because we could modify the schedule however we wanted! Right before we arrived in Marrakech, we stopped for Camel rides in a location called the Oasis. We got all dressed up into traditional Moroccan outfits and rode the camals around the Oasis! It was so fun. Anna's camel kept running into the butt of my camel and Tony (the name Anna gave my camel) did not like it. He kept making noises at Anna - it was so funny. I also kept giving Anna's camel pats on the head every time that I got ran into. I think we smiled and laughed the entire time.
After the camels, we headed into the center of the city to go to the Saint Laurent Museum. He was inspired by all the colors in Morocco for many of his famous collection. The museum was located where his residence used to be. After the museum, we headed to the gardens where he had his ashes scattered. The gardens, Jordin Majorelle, are famous for being beautiful in Marrakech. They were definitely beautiful.
After the gardens, we headed to lunch. We again had to eat at a hotel due to Ramadan. We went to the Four Seasons in Marrakech, it was so pretty. After lunch, we headed to view Kutubiyya Mosque. After the mosque we visited the La Bahia Palace, the king's in the 1800s. It was so pretty with handmade tile designs everywhere!
After the palace, we headed towards the Medina market area. In this huge market place, we stopped at a pharmacy, which is filled with all natural medicine, like ginger, poppyseed, turmeric and so much more. While in the shop, I broke a fragile object... No surprise. I was very apologetic and the tour guide (a pharmacist) just gave me the item I broke for free instead of making me pay for anything at all.
After the pharmacy, we stopped at a few more shops before arriving at the main square. The main square was everything you have ever seen in movies, including snake charmers, monkeys running around leashes, rugs, and spices everywhere. It was amazing to see this in action in real life. I kind of wanted to watch the snack charmers, but they make you pay (no surprise here), but instead our guide took us to a rooftop where we could view the snakes and the entire market from above. It was so cool. I do not have the adequate words to describe the amazing experience.
After the market, we got back into the car and headed back towards the hotel. Random note: The driver and the tour guide's timing was insane. The driver was always perfectly pulling up when we arrived - it was very impressive! We arrived back at the hotel around 6pm, so restaurants were still not open so we ate at the hotel again. Anna and I stayed up relatively late, watching Netflix and playing cards for a while before calling it a night.
