Anna and I slept in until about 10 before meeting her mom at the hotel breakfast. After breakfast, I met my surf instructor in the lobby as I had arranged lessons for the morning. The hotel failed to communicate, so the guide thought I had never surfed before. He was happy to learn that I just wanted the surfboard and some company. He gave a lot of helpful tips that I can practice when I get back to school in San Diego. The waves were not the best but I was so unbelievably happy. I did not stop smiling the entire time. I was doing my favorite things in the world - traveling and surfing. Wow, I am a lucky girl. Just like my entire last four months, it truly was a dream come true!
After my lesson, I met Anna and her mom back at the hotel to change before we headed to a Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. This mosque is the third largest in the world. It fits up to 25,000 people inside alone and 80,000 outside on the grounds. It was beautiful and very happy to be let inside as a tourist. After the tour, we headed to the hammam, a Moroccan bathing ritual. We had no idea what to expect. The hammam that we made reservations at was the one inside this mosque. Based on the looks we received, I do not think many tourists go to this particular one.
It is a huge bathing area divided by women and men. You get fully nude and bathe yourself while other people are around. After you wash yourself, someone scrubs and exfoliates you while you lay naked on a table. Imagine you are washing a child as a baby, just moving them around and scrubbing them. I was the baby in the situation. I honestly loved it and I am so glad that I had the chance to experience it. I honestly think if someone started a “trendy” hammam business in the States, it would be very successful.
After the hammam, we walked 2 miles back to the hotel. Keep in mind we were wet with unbrushed hair and were still a bit shocked from the experience. It was a moment. We had one last dinner together before calling it an early night. We had to get up at 3 am the next morning to get to the airport for the final flight back home to the United States. I really liked Morocco and am so happy I was able to add-on to the end of my trip. Thanks to Anna and Kelly for letting me join them.
