Day 2 in Barcelona - Tango lessons, Montjuic & sunset sail

Writer: Meg Meg

We started the day with tango lessons and drinks on a rooftop patio. My friend, Anna, and I partnered while our adorable instructor, originally from Argentina, taught us the basic steps. It was a lot of fun. I was not great at it, but I loved learning!

After, we took the tram up Montjuic, a dramatic hill that rises above Barcelona’s port. Up top, there is an ancient fortress where we could see the harbor and even our SAS ship in port. We walked through the park and saw the Olympic Stadium built for the 1992 Olympics hosted in Barcelona.

We had a tapas lunch near the marina (with more Iberian ham on the menu) and then met our catamaran captain for drinks and a sunset sail in the open Mediterranean Sea. Another SAS friend, Rael, joined us. We saw the Barcelona skyline, beachfront, and enjoyed the sunset. The harbor has many super yachts in port for winter maintenance - one can dream!

After sailing, we had cocktails on a nearby rooftop patio, a restaurant called 1881. Much later after midnight, Anna, my cousin, and I went to the Opium club where a few random girls provided us with free wristbands (saving 100 euros each), showed us to their VIP table, and gave us a bottle of unopened Cava. We never saw them again, but it was great to have a space to watch the dance floor from behind the DJ booth (which my 18-year old cousin really appreciated). We returned to our Airbnb before grandma's 4am curfew. Ha.
