After waking up at 4am in Greece to catch our taxi ride to the airport, we got through the airport reasonably quickly as our bags were checked through to Cairo. I had some Starbucks coffee, as I had not had any in a couple days. It tasted so good! Once we arrived, we headed to get visas but the government literally just handed them to us as they knew we where Americans. In baggage claim, I was shaking as my bag was the last one to come. I really do not want to lose my bag, so once it actually came, I was very relieved. We then met our guide and a man with gun, who would be along side at all times, and onto a bus to ride to the hotel. My very first impression of Egypt was the smell. It smells like poop, actual poop, and the buildings are half built. They just stop at a level when they run out of materials. People still live in all the other floors. Once at the hotel, the very first view was looking out onto the pyramids and Sphinx! Really really cool family run hotel with an amazing view. We then had 30 minutes to change and get ready for our tour day. After we changed, we headed towards the pyramids and got lunch at a local place with classic Egyptian food called felfela, it was so good. After, we headed to our tour of the pyramids. It was amazing learning and seeing about the the pyramids as they where built 3500 BC. Once we walked around the pyramids, we stoped at the first known and seen boat besides Noah’s arc. Then we found our camels! I had the best time riding the camels. My camel guide let me lead the camel! He was so nice and friendly, he made the camel riding a better experience. He took my camera and I had a personal paparazzi. He asked Mary and I if we had boyfriends then told us we did now, as he was our new boyfriend, I loved this dude. Once the ride was over, we headed to the sphinx. I “kissed” the Sphinx, as you can see in my photo. After our time at the pyramids, we got back on the bus and headed towards the Nile river to sail. We headed to a local boat dock to jump on a sail boat! We got drinks and just chilled on the river. It made me so damn happy. I'm sailing on the Nile! Once the ride was over, we headed back to the hotel. As we arrived back at the hotel, the sun was setting and I ran to the rooftop patio to watch the sun set over the pyramids. We had pizza brought to us and watched the light show. The light show was kinda lame but I stayed the whole time to be respectful. Great first day in Egypt, I’d say.
