Got back to the boat pretty late last night. But the most important part was we all made it back by the curfew. This morning was not great.
The announcement woke me up at 6 am to go get my covid test for the day. I tested negative yayy. Afterwards I headed back to my cabin to sleep for a bit longer.
I passed out and woke up to the announcement of my field class meeting. I ran out my door, then realized I wasn’t wearing contacts. So I had to run back. I ended up being just 5 minutes late but it was okay because I wasn’t the only student late. We ended up waiting an hour for a missing student.
After we finally left we got outside and had a tour bus waiting for us. Then we had about an hour bus ride to a winery.
It was honestly a beautiful drive. We headed towards the mountains outside of Athens.
The winery was beautiful. They gave us a tour of entire place and walked us through the production line. The line was new last year, before that they manually labeled and sealed. The process was really cool to see.
After we saw the process we went down to the cellar. They had so many barrels of all types of wine. Unfortunately we could not taste it, no drinking on field classes is a SAS rule.
After the tour finished we got back on the bus and headed to an olive oil farm. We did get to taste the oil! It was so good, I bought some to take back on the ship. The business has been family owned and operated for four generations. They business was just started in 1923 though. They make four types of olive oil and olive jam and have ten types of olives.
After the olive oil farm we headed to lunch. The lunch spot was amazing. It was a super cute water front place in Corinth. The ocean is so blue its crazy.
After lunch we got back on the bus and headed back to the ship. On the way back, we stopped to look at the canal that is no longer in use. It was 200 meters deep kinda crazy. The drive back to the ship was so pretty!! We saw the sunset over the ocean.
Once we got back to the road, we literally ran off the bus to get out bags and head to the airport. It was kinda stressful as I was worried we would miss the flight. We made the flight no problem and time to spare.
The plane was so tiny, it was a little propeller plane. We were the only people on the fight because who goes to Santorini in the middle of winter?
We literally had almost all forms of transportation today. Boat, bus, taxi, and plane. After lots of forms of transportation, we finally arrived at the airport in Santorini. We found out that the taxi we ordered didn’t come, wo we had to figure that out.
Once we arrived, we were locked out of the room so it took a minute but we got it. We quickly changed and headed out to the only restaurant open on the island past 8 pm. Wintertime plus quarantine in the Greek islands is pretty much dead. When we arrived, the rest of the group had already eaten and found some old guys to buy us a round of drinks. Anyways it was a nice dinner. Also it's a law here that you cannot play music because of covid, footloose type of vibe. After dinner we went back to the airbnb and had a party ourselves.
