We woke up early to head to a semifinal day of the world surfing competition that was happening in Peniche. I made Anna and Isa come with me. I couldn’t miss an opportunity to see professional surfers on the World Pro Tour in Portugal!!
We cut it really close getting to the bus with a minute to spare. The bus took us 2 hours north of Lisbon along the coast. When we got off, we tried to find somewhere to eat but most things were closed as it's off season in Peniche, a very small surf and fishing town. We found a supermarket for some snacks and water for the day. We then headed towards the beach where the competition was taking place.
The town was so quiet yet the beach was absolutely packed! It was really cool walking up to the beach and seeing the entire setup. As we arrived, we saw one heat of the men's competition, then the women’s semifinal heats. They are so good - it's crazy!! Watching it in person was so cool.
As we headed back to the bus station, all the taxis in the city were busy. Not surprisingly, so we walked instead but unfortunately missed the bus. We ended up taking the next bus back instead.
I was exhausted from the day before so when we arrived back at the airbnb, I laid down to take a nap and just ended up sleep until the next morning.
