Packing for SAS

Writer: Meg Meg

Updated: Dec 26, 2021

Just started packing for my semester abroad today. I have been planning for a while but actually laying items out is overwhelming. My parents have helped at lot with purchasing bags and random items like new bathroom items. My mom sat in my room with me today while i organizing for hours. Packing a semester full of items into three bags is also provided anxiety and stress. Its not very easy. I am beyond excited for the experience of a lifetime that begins in just 4 days!

Challenges:

Their has been some challenges and surprises. Everything has to be sealed when boarding the boat. This has created a slight challenge, most things don’t come sealed. We have self sealed items, hopefully they don’t notice. Planning covid test and boosters are stressful. I have to have a total of three covid test before embarking. Send a prayer they are all negative… I don’t feel sick but i have never shown symptoms. My planned SAS (semester at sea) roommate informed me two days ago that she can no longer go. I’m not sure if I will be assigned a random roommate or if I will be alone. I won’t find out tell I arrive at the terminal in Naples.

All the exciting news:

I leave for Rome in just 4 days!! I will be meeting 9 girls at an abnb that are also doing SAS. I haven’t met them yet but I’m so excited to meet so many people who have the same interest in traveling as me! I will stay in Rome until new years day then I will make my way by train (hopefully) to Pompeii where I will stay untill I embark in Naples on January 5th! This is if all things go as planned!! I cannot wait to live out my childhood dream! Suite life on deck here we come!

Stay updated with my trip through this blog. I won’t have much phone service, if you need to reach me you can email me at my SAS email, megan.clements.sp22@semesteratsea.org.
