Upon our departure from Malta, the number of Covid cases on the ship jumped. Unfortunately, the Spanish government has a limit on infections rates for cruise ships. We didn’t meet the requirement, so the entire ship was required to stay in our rooms in hopes a delayed arrival to Spain would allow us to hit the lower numbers needed to enter the country.
We called the 10 minutes of outdoor time we were allocated each day “yard time” as it did feel a bit prison-like. By the last day, our time was upped to 30 minutes where we did speed workouts on the deck for our yard time.
The satellite internet coverage on the ship is terrible and was unusable with all of us stuck in our rooms. For one night, the captain put our ship at anchor near Mallorca to increase cellular service. And my cell phone FINALLY started working – it hasn’t since December when we were in Italy!
While the quarantine was miserable, it did work as we were allowed to dock in Barcelona! We received the good news as my mom, grandma and cousin were boarding their flight in Minneapolis to fly to Barcelona to see me.
