Safari Day 2 - July 19th

As we were sleeping in tents, during the night last night, you could hear all sorts of animal noses from frogs to elephants, super cool experience. We then woke up early again today, as the sunlight woke us up at 6:30 am but it was perfect timing to get breakfast by 7 am. We loaded and headed off at 8am for our full day Safari. We had to drive a while before seeing our first wildlife of the day besides birds. On the long ride, I got fascinated with this bird called, red neck francolins. It can’t really fly for long so it has adapted and it runs really fast. It’s so funny to watch it run, it’s more of a waddle. The first big game we saw today were two graffies. They where very close to the path so we got a close look at them. After we saw many empala, wildbeasts for the next couple hours, and some zebra every now and then. I was getting a little bored, but then we ran into lots of stopped cars. That’s usually a good thing because that means they are looking at something. This something was a lion! He was laying on the ground and as soon as we pulled up the car startled him so he walked off, but I got good pictures. Then we went around the bend and found another lion, most likely the son. We got so close, our driver went off path and got us ten feet away!! Kinda scary but so cool. We then waited a while to see if he would get up, but he didn’t so we went back around the corner and bam, the other lion was there again! So the driver drove us really close once again, super lucky sightings. We then drove off to lunch and didn’t see much on the way. After lunch we got lucky again, as we pulled out of the spot their was four elephants eating the grass along side the road!! We watched them for a while, they are so cute, I love elephants. After we left we headed back to the hippo pool! Right before the hippo pool was more elephants. It was a family of elephants Mom, son, daughter, and one month old baby. Since the baby was so young the dad was also still around. They where the closest elephants yet, I was so happy plus the baby was so so amazing to look at. Then we moved onto the hippo pool! I love the hippos they are so funny, the sound like pigs. After the funny hippos we started our way back to the tents. We saw lots and lots of graffities on the way back, they are the national animal of Tanzania. When we arrived at camp Syd and I both finally got a shower. Dinner was really good again, although over night the game was very active outside our tent. The birds are really annoying, the elephants where very loud, and something died right outside our tent so that was fun to listen too at 4 am. Oh and we think monkeys where on our platform, something was walking around outside our tent. I’m slightly relieved it was our last night glamping.

I totally forgot about all the baboons, everywhere!
