Trip Highlights - Summer 2019

Writer: Meg Meg

I am so thankful to be able to experience everything I did on my service project trip. I am now safely at my home in Stillwater, Minnesota after over 20 hours on planes and in airports. Thank you to Brandon and Amanda Maxwell for planning and coordinating this amazing trip. I just wanted to post one last time to share some of my favorite moments. My most memorable take away from my time in Egypt was playing soccer against the Egyptian women. I will always remember one of the girls, her name was Dina, she was in an international school in Cairo, she spoke four different languages, and was studying to be an engineer. She inspired me with her determination. The way the locals where so genuinely interested and kind to foreigners blew me away, this made my experience in Egypt as wonderful as it was. My most memorable take away from my time in Tanzania was teaching and spending time with the children in the village. I miss Jole so much, I would’ve taken him home with me, but it’s illegal to adopt children from Tanzania. :/ My favorite site in Egypt was seeing the Pyramids and Sphinx and being able to riding a camel across the desert in front of the monument. Although Tanzania didn't have many sites I loved seeing the differences between the development between Egypt and Tanzania and how hugely different it was, Tanzania still had mud houses and most people farmed for their own food as their living. Looking back on this trip now, I will always remember the children in the village, meeting Dina, the Egyptian women we played soccer against, and all the wonderful people, from different cultures, that I met on this journey.

Random Fun Fact I visited/saw three of the seven wonders of the world on this trip.

  1. The Great Pyramid of Giza

  2. Lighthouse of Alexandria

  3. Statue/Temple of Zeus
